WE BELIEVE THAT EVERYONE NEEDS AND DESERVES BASIC HEALTHCARE, AND HAS THE RIGHT TO BE TREATED WITH RESPECT WHILE GETTING IT.
Wheels of Wellness is a Registered Charity founded by Dr Amanda Roberts, initially as a social initiative back in 2014. The Wheels of Wellness (WoW) Outreach Mobile program uses mobile GP and Nurse clinics to engage, support and deliver health care to our forgotten members of society – people disadvantaged by domestic abuse, homelessness, poverty, and mental health problems (just to name a few).
We help our clients achieve better health outcomes as they attempt to get their lives back on track. We are a registered charity and Non for Profit organisation that provides medical and social care with the aim of reducing homelessness here in Cairns. This is a group of Cairns locals: medical professionals and volunteers, who deliver free, focused medical and social support to anyone who needs it.
Our mobile clinics are free and deliver quality health care through weekly clinics that run from various locations including the street, shelters and homeless camps. The health and service needs of each individual are seen to by our experienced team, which include a nurse, social worker and GP.
We work collaboratively with community services, government organisations and other agencies including, but not limited to, Anglicare, Mission Australia and YETI to provide comprehensive and coordinated care in difficult circumstances. Through these partnerships we ensure a coordinated approach to patient care and follow up.
WoW runs a medical clinic out in the community with our fantastic van and encourages clients to continue ongoing care with the doctor, nurses and social workers at the Hub: A Place of Peace. To cover our costs, we rely on donations and grants and are always looking for new partners, donations and ideas to help improve our service and our community.
